Embrace the Promise of Spring (and Spring Cleaning)

Spring is here! The days are getting longer, the trees are starting to bud and the birds are chirping. It’s the season of rebirth — the time of year when life reawakens from its frigid #winter slumber and starts anew.

It’s also an excellent time for people to revisit their goals and establish new habits for the year. Start with a check-in: Make notes on where you are mentally and where you’d like to be. What do you value most, and are you able to satisfy those needs?

Next, write down a few intentions. Maybe you want to exercise more, meditate or pursue a new hobby. Or maybe you have an attitudinal goal such as being more forgiving to yourself or more patient with family members. Whatever it is, jot it down and revisit it regularly.

Be Meditation suggests a “walking meditation” to review your intentions while enjoying the spring air. Find a quiet path where you can appreciate new growth and encourage it in yourself, deeply “breathing in your intention.”

Plan Your Garden Before the Leaves Appear

The best time to plan your #garden is before any existing perennials, trees and shrubs start to fill in, Family Handyman says. Add evergreens, berry bushes and other plants to give those bare or blah areas four-season appeal. As #spring arrives, figure out how many hours of sun the different areas of the yard get to plant the appropriate flowers and shrubs in the right spots. Full-sun plants require at least six hours of direct sunlight per day, while part-shade plants need three to six. Set Goals to Make Decluttering Actionable

Set goals to help #declutter your home fast and with a sense of purpose, says Blast Aloud; otherwise, you’ll wind up procrastinating. Goals can be based upon a number of items you want to get rid of or keep, the period of time you want to dedicate to #organizing a specific room, how often you want to declutter, or how much space you want to reclaim. Than take action! “There is no way a goal or a plan will automatically execute itself,” the blog says. “The sooner you start taking the necessary action, the faster the whole process becomes. Irrespective of how difficult it might seem to start off, rest assured, it will be easier once you commence.”

Try Decluttering in One-Hour Bursts

To blow through your #decluttering fast, says Be More With Less blogger Courtney Carver, try doing #organizing “bursts” in which you get rid of 100 things in 60 minutes. Set up a box for #trash and one for #donations and set the timer; you’re going to go quickly from space to space and eliminate items from each. Have a list of areas in hand and a number in mind, she says: Count off 10 items from the bathroom, 20 items from the kitchen, 10 items from the car and so on. Before you know it, you’ll have made a big dent in all that useless #stuff — and likely will have assembled a substantial #charitable #donation for #pickup.
